HOT TUB YOGA IS-HOT! GREAT FOR YOU; EASY TO DO

HOT TUB YOGA! We had an early call this morning from our friends Lynne & Walter who are real physical fitness buffs. Both in their 70′s they go to the gym, walk and bike to keep fit. They’re our inspiration for living well.  Right now they’re in Palm Springs for the sun (and glad they are! It snowed in Seattle yesterday and the temperature is 35.8 this morning). Their condo is across from a health spa where they’ve been going for morning exercise. Their excitement? They couldn’t wait to tell us about the hot tub yoga they’ve been doing.  Yoga poses are so much easier in the hot tub. Heat makes you more limber and stretching easier. The water holds you up on the difficult balancing poses. So, they’re really jazzed and want to do a booklet on hot tub yoga when they’re back in Seattle.  Stay tuned!

Think of it as an alternative to hot or Bikram yoga..more fun, too. At the end of your stretching, you can sit comfortably in the lotus position and do a short meditation.  We know a lot of our Olympic Hot Tub Company customers meditate in their Hot Spring Spas. Anyone else do yoga in the hot tub?

OLYMPIC’S HOT TUB COMPANY’S SERVICE? IT COULDN’T BE BETTER SAYS HAPPY CUSTOMER

Greetings Alice,

I just wanted to take time to share about my experience with your service dept. I noticed an inconsistent heating issue last Dec. during our cold and snow with my Hot Spring Spa Prodigy model.  It was new in 2000.

I drained and cleaned it the tub Feb. 7th.  I filled the tub, added chemicals, and closed the cover and ran the jets for approximately 15 minutes. All appeared normal until later in the day when I lifted the cover to find the water temp was still like the tap. I called your service center first thing Monday morning the 9th and spoke with Janet to explain my problem.  She was very pleasant and set an appt. for the 18th.

Your tech Reg, called me around noon on the 18th and upon his testing and trouble-shooting, explained my heater was dead. (Editor’s note: That’s Reg on the left holding the 2008 Bedrock Award given to him for being such a great asset to Olympic.)

I gave him the go ahead to replace the heater and if any other hoses, fittings, etc. were in need to just do it.  Reg was impressed with how everything looked and assured me that the heater was all that needed to be replaced.

I got home around 4:00 pm and the water temp was around 85.  At 8:30 p.m. it was right up to 102!  I took my tub and did feel the heater kick on after 25 minutes. It was great!  It was so nice to have the tub back and now it’s like new.  Should be good for another 8-9 years with this heater!!

I’m a happy customer, love my Hot Springs Spa. Your staff is A-1 in my book. The only down side to the above story- I went 10 days without tubbing.  It was really difficult.

Regards,

Jon Sheldahl, Shoreline, WA.

MY REPLY TO JON:

Hello Jon:

Thanks so much for your email! I really appreciate the feedback on our staff and your telling me of your love for your Hot Spring Spa. The only downside from our point of view, is that your Prodigy will probably last 20+ years and you won’t need a new one until then!  But, that’s the way it goes with Hot Spring Spas- reliable, durable and long-lasting.

In the meantime, for the few glitches, we have Reg and our other Service Techs to keep you in hot water.

Thanks again for sharing your experience. Thanks for your business and happy soaking.

Best wishes,

Alice Cunningham, Co-Owner, Olympic Hot Tub Company

PS: My husband and I used our Hot Spring Prodigy a lot during the December snow storms. (yes, that’s our model, too. We love it). Being in the hot water up to our necks as the snow fell was sheer bliss.

HOT SPRING SPA RECOMMENDED FOR STROKE VICTIM

One of our Olympic Hot Tub Company sales staff told me a story this afternoon about his last sale which was to couple in their 80s.  We sold a spa to a 93 year old woman last year, but that is not the norm!  Our typical buyers are in the 30-65 age bracket.

But to continue with the couple’s story, the gentleman had had a stroke. His physical therapist recommended a hot tub for the benefits to his circulation. He advised that the hot water and the jets would provide excellent therapy for muscle retraining.  Because the couple was not web savy (at the beginning of the search for the hot tub), the physical therapist went on line and did all the research.

His advice: Get a Hot Spring Spa. Don’t bother to look at anything else.  When our young (twentysomething) salesman went to the couple’s home for a free consultation, they had learned enough about the web to stop him every few minutes to check online to verify what he had just told them!

Yes, they bought a Hot Spring Jetsetter model-perfect for two-which will be delivered this Thursday. We will keep in touch with him to see how he progresses towards a full recovery.

Be sure to check with your doctor before using a hot tub if you have suffered a stroke or have any other medical condition that might not benefit from hot water therapy.

I’d love to hear from any other stroke victims. Has a hot tub helped you?

HOW TO CONNECT WITH YOUR TEENAGERS? GET A HOT TUB!-Part 2

In my last post I quoted many parents of teens who had used their Hot Spring Spas as a place to hold meaningful conversations with them. Without the distractions of TV/video games/cell phones/iPods. etc., there is such a powerful relaxation response from the warm water and jets that conversation just flows.

Another major reason that parents of teens get a hot tub, is to know who their kids’ friends are.  How many times have you heard: “Mom, I’m off to the mall. ‘Bye!” You respond: “Who’re you going with?” “Friends.” And, they’re out the door.

You don’t know who they’re with.

I’ve had countless wise parents tell me they purchased an Olympic Hot Tub and all of the accessories so their backyard is the center of their teens social life.  The soccer team meets there after practice.  The Little League team celebrates every win with a soak.  After fall football practice, their Hot Spring Spa is a must for aching muscles. The kids celebrate their birthdays with a hot tub party.

It may be noisy for a few years, but they know who their kids’ friends are. That peace of mind is priceless!  And, when they grow up, the hot tub and the backyard will be their own special haven.

Teenagers at home? A Hot Spring Spa is the right choice NOW for connection and peace of mind.

HOW TO CONNECT WITH YOUR TEENAGER? GET A HOT TUB!

I’ve heard so many stories lately from our Olympic Hot Tub Company customers about the transformation-and I don’t use that word lightly-in their relationship with their teenager since putting in a Hot Spring Spa. One father confided in me that it was the first time he had talked to his 13 year old son since he became a teen.  He almost had tears in his eyes.

Another said that his most important connection was with his son but “there were no sit down dinners only microwaved frozen packages eaten on the run now-a- days.”  “When my son and I are in the tub, it’s my son’s “safety zone” to talk about what’s on his mind. You can’t do that in the car because traffic is annoying and you’re paying attention to that. The hot tub is important for chatting with him tell me what’s on his mind, what he’s thinking. It’s been a blessing. It wouldn’t have happened without the hot tub.”

Another shared, “It’s a good way to get kids attention when they’re in the hot tub, they have to talk to you because there’s nothing else going on.  Especially with teens, they don’t talk to you at all. In the tub you have their undivided attention!”  The hot tub gets kids away from video games and TV. Make a rule to ban cell phones & iPods in the tub, too.  You will get their undivided attention!

Many twenty something buyers are coming into our stores now saying that they had a Hot Spring from Olympic Hot Tub Company at home growing up. They remember the talks; the connection with their parents and want to create that for their own children.

You may think the teenage years will never end and that you’ll be ostracized from their lives forever. But the years go by so quickly. Wise parents know that reaching a teen now is a way to have influence on their lives and show them how much love you have for them.  There’s no better way than creating a place for the conversation between you to open….that place is the hot tub.

In a recent national survey of hot tub buyers, the #1 benefit of hot tub ownership was connection with family. The typical time-starved family these days spends less than 20 minutes together conversing each day,” says Sharyn Wolf, author and therapist.  “The hot tub is a bridge that helps you float back to the things that really matter, like family, friends, relaxation, and fun.”

Don’t wait before it’s too late to connect with your teenager. Get a Hot Spring Spa!

STAR GAZING FROM YOUR HOT TUB

Did you know this is the International Year of Astronomy?  What better time than now to learn about the night sky.  Galaxy Gazing from your Hot Spring Spa on a starry is indeed heavenly.  Pick out the Big Dipper, Orion, Gemini-the twins and other constellations seen in the mid-winter sky. The best source for information on what to watch for in the heavens? The University of Texas at Austin’s Star Date website. You’ll find tips for every day of the year on what’s skyward as you look upward from your hot tub.

I was in my roof top Hot Spring Spa last night looking at the Big Dipper. A wispy cloud cover couldn’t diminish it’s visibility. Venus hung low on the horizon as the steam curled up from the tub. What bliss! I find I’m typically soaking right after I come home from work. Why wait until bedtime for that deep relaxation? Too, soaking right after I come home gives my body the signal that work is OVER and my time is now my own.  It’s a guaranteed stress reliever.

Anyone else a hot tub star gazer?

SAUNA AND EXERCISE EQUIPMENT AT HOME-BETTER THAN GOING TO A GYM

If you’re like most people, you want to exercise. Yes, you mean to exercise and get in shape. You just don’t have the time. It’s not convenient. It takes too much time and effort to get to the gym just to exercise. When your time is worth a lot and convenience means the difference between exercising or not, this letter from an Olympic Hot Tub Company Finnleo sauna owner will encourage you to add a home sauna.  Even if exercising is not at the top of your list, detoxifying all of the harmful chemicals from food and the environment that have nested in your body should be.
Read on:
Hey there, here are some pics of the room I put together to get into shape and stay healthy. As you know going to the local gym can be a bit of a chore and  not that fun when it is crowded.  Having to wait for a  weight machine or a treadmill.  Also, the time it takes to get there and undress and dress and shower and deal with others crowding around you. It just was not motivating anymore. After adding up the cost of   monthly fees and gas and time, I decided to invest in a home gym with a sauna made by Finnleo sold at Olympic Hot Tub Company. I purchased a home gym and a Elliptical machine, along with the Passport series traditional Finnleo sauna. After my workout I jump into my sauna and enjoy the steam and heat that cleanses the body of toxins, and relaxes the muscles after the hard workout. It takes about 15 minutes to get a to about  170 degrees. I am very happy with my purchase and know that if I ever move,  that this series of sauna is portable. Meaning that it is easy to take apart and move. I want to thank the salesmen at Olympic Hot Tub (Brandon and Steve in the Everett store) for helping me choose the right one for me. I looked around the web and did not find anything close to price and quality. Now, when I wake up I look forward to using my gym and  sauna. Even before bed it is a nice treat. Thank you again.

ROMANTIC HOT TUB GETAWAY AT HOME FOR VALENTINE'S DAY

Leave a note for your loved one suggesting a Valentine’s Day rendezvous ..in your Hot Spring Spa! Light candles, play some quiet music and enjoy each others company alone under the stars and moonlight in the privacy of your own backyard. Drink chilled sparkling water during your soak. Chocolate covered strawberries are a great treat for eating in the tub.  (Lately my husband and I have been eating  Emily’s chocolate covered fortune cookies. Yummy and you get a fortune to ponder and laugh about). Have your favorite bottle of wine chilling to drink after soaking.  Proseco is a great choice.

It’s not the money spend on a Valentine’s Day gift-it’s the thought. The thought that you have remembered and wanted to do something special for your spouse or partner.  If you already have a hot tub think about new towels, new fluffy terry cloth robes combined with a new spa scent such as Being. Packaged together they may not be diamonds, but a Valentine’s gift that will signify how much you value your romantic time together.

Olympic Hot Tub Company has sold a number of Hot Spring Spas this year for a delivery tomorrow and Saturday that will be a complete surprise to a spouse or partner. We’ve been instructed not to call before hand, just show up with red bow and that we will.  What a truly romantic gesture that will ensure romance stays alive in that relationship for years to come!

HOT TUB EXERCISE GUIDE

Exercising in your hot tub offers a healthy, fun way to relax and improve muscle tone at the same time. Hot tub exercises provide simple physical exertion that can promote tension release and relieve muscle tightness.  They’re particularly good if you suffer from arthritis or fibromyalgia because they’re so gentle.  You can go at your own page and look for small benefits everyday. Too, the hot water eases painful joints so you get a more complete range of motion.

Take advantage of the water temperature and jet pressure in your hot tub to start your exercise program today.  Our Olympic Hot Tub Company exercise guide can help you on your way. Best of all, they’re isometric and no equipment’s required!  You could make it more challenging by buying using exercise tubing that you can pass over your shoulders or Friad Knots which are stretch ropes you can purchase with an exercise VHS tape.

Identify the part of your body that is sore and concentrate on the exercises that apply.  Or for complete relaxation, do the whole series once a day during your hot tub soak until all tightness washes away.

Here’s the  exercise guide from Olympic Hot Tub Company. Why not laminate it to make it waterproof and have it ready to use during your daily soak?.  Although all the exercises are relatively easy to do for most individuals, we recommend that you consult a physician before beginning any physical exercising or conditioning. Exercise only in mildly hot water, 100-102 degrees, and do not continue if you feel pain, dizziness, or overheated.

Begin slowly. Relax completely between exercises. Go at your own pace. Remember to enjoy yourself in your Hot Spring Spa! Breathe!

HOW TO BUY A HOT TUB- 8 TIPS FOR BUYING THE RIGHT ONE THE FIRST TIME

Hot tubs have been in the news recently. Last week The New York Times wrote about installing one in a vacation home. The Wall Street Journal reported that hot tubs are a great solution to help dual career couples overcome “the dead zone.” This is the awkward silence professional couples experience after working long hours at demanding jobs only to return home with absolutely nothing to say to each other. They’re mentally exhausted. A 20-minute soak in the hot tub can change the “dead zone” into a time of renewal.

Oprah did a show on happiness, and the winner of her happiness contest attributed her satisfaction in life to the fact that she and her husband take a soak in their backyard hot tub each morning to chat about the day, just after the kids left for school. She was not the richest contestant and she’d had had many life challenges, but in terms of inner satisfaction and happiness, she was the clear winner.

Whatever your reason for purchasing a hot tub, what is important is to make the right choice of brand and model that will keep you and your family happy for years to come.

Here are eight tips to guarantee you’ll make the “perfect fit” hot tub choice for you and your family.

1.Try it wet before you buy it. Want to know if a hot tub’s seats are right for you. Get wet. Take a test soak to judge seat comfort and more.

2. Note the torso depth when you’re sitting up comfortably. You’ll want water depth to be over your shoulders.

3. Multi-level seating should accommodate both adults and children. The best option for all soakers is “barrier free” seating with no confining bucket seats or other obstructions to get in the way as you move around in the water.

4. It’s all about the jets. Pay attention to jet types and jet placement. Most hot tub users prefer to adjust the jet pressure for the hydrotherapy they’re seeking. Make sure the model you chose has ways to adjust the pressure and that jets are placed “just right” for your needs. Think foot, back and neck massage!

5. Hear the silence. A truly quiet spa-like Hot Spring-has no audible noise or vibration when the water is circulating, heating and filtering. This is a critical feature for your overall pleasure and keeping friendships with neighbors. It’s been reported that the largest number of complaints to Seattle City Council members is hot tub noise from neighbors. It’s not the parties, its the noisy hot tub pumps that come on in the middle of the night.

6. Take a deep breath and smell the water. Beware of chlorine smell or skin dryness after the soak. Crystal clean water without effort or hassle should be your #1 concern. Avoid old style models that rely on chlorine as a sanitizer or don’t have 24 hour full-filtration. Look for silver ion technology and corona discharge ozone. Sounds technical, but getting the right thing is important for the long run.

7. Energy costs matter! Make sure that the model you select meets the highest energy standards: like the new California Energy code and has been 3rd party tested by an independent lab to make sure the energy cost you’re quoted is accurate. A well-insulated hot tub like Hot Spring will average less than $20.00 a month kept hot 24/7 in Puget Sound. Make sure you see the energy report.

8. Final tip: schedule a test soak on a Thursday night. If you’re like most people, by Friday you’re so tired, you’re in a daze.  You’re somewhat relaxed on the week end which is when most people come to take a trial dip.  By test soaking on a Thursday evening, you’ll be able to truly experience what a hot tub will do for you.  You’ll sleep like a baby that night and you’ll be full of energy and optimism on Friday. It will be almost like another weekend day! Doing a test dip is the best way to figure out what hot tub is the right one for you.

At Olympic Hot Tub Company, we’ve had our hot tubs hot and ready to try since the first day we opened for business. Come on over. The water’s ready for you to take a test soak!
