Story of a Hot Tub Sale: Customer and Saleswoman Hug at the End!

Here’s a story of the perfect way to buy a hot tub from Linda Wood in the Fife Olympic Hot Tub Company store. It’s the story of a sale and how Linda listened to her customer, Gloria M.  She found out why Gloria needed a spa; she’s suffering from juvenile arthritis.  She heard that Gloria was interested in easy care, so the ACE Salt Sanitizing system was the perfect answer for her. And, most interesting is how careful a shopper Gloria was. She looked at our Zip code book, read all of the reviews on Google Maps, and took the advice of  friends.
Here’s the story:
“Gloria has had juvenile arthritis since she was 3 years old. She shopped a few places before coming here. Rich’s, Aqua Rec Swimming Hole…..and then this day, at work, she had 2 different people say that she should take a look at Olympic (she works at a Credit Union) so she thought there must be something to this (we call this a “sign”, don’t you?) It’s great she trusted her intuition.  So, she stopped by after work.
She needed a spa that she could get out of easily (her arthritis makes it difficult)so the Prodigy seemed like a good fit. She was someone that soaked-up every bit of information that came her way (she was into it)…from the zip code directory, to every single written review that we have on our closing table. Since she read all those, I also went ahead and printed the Google reviews for her to take home to her husband as well. (Awesome reviews!!)
As for easy care, the ACE Salt system was a huge selling point for her. (Note:  the ACE system is selling like hot cakes).  She loved the idea of it!!  She was first going to wait until she could take the information to her husband this weekend. But then she called him….THEY talked. She put him on the phone to me…..WE talked. Next thing you know, she said it was really the spa she wanted and she was just going to go ahead and get it. Very nice gal, I’m glad she is our customer :)
We hugged…and she went on her way.”

Shopping for a hot tub or spa? Take your time.  Look over all reviews and letters from satisfied customers. Be a careful shopper.

And, the most important: have such good rapport with your sales person that you hug at the end :-) . It doesn’t get any better than that in the process of buying anything.  It will only get better when she gets the spa and starts to experience the pain relief that she’s looking for.

TOP 10 Tips for Caring for Your Hot Tub Filters

Filters are the hardest working component in your hot tub system. And, they’re the first line of defense in maintaining a clean and healthy hot tub.You can lengthen the time between draining and filling your spa by following these tips for maintenance:

ONE: Add SeaKlear Shock every time you get out of the spa and run the jets for 10 minutes. Add SeaKlear Sanitizing Granules once a week.  Save 15% on all SeaKlear water care products through this week at Olympic Hot Tub company’s e-store.

TWO: Get on the SilkBalance program for the best way to maintain your spa water and keep filters in their best working order.

THREE:

Every two-four weeks rinse filters using the high-pressure nozzle on your garden hose. A Water Wand hose attachment will be a big help in doing this job right. Unplug the hot tub or turn off the breakers on 220v models before removing the filters for cleaning!

FOUR: Clean filters thoroughly at least once a month. Always clean when you drain and refill the spa for best water quality. To clean: spray with Seaklear Spa Filter Cleaner. Filters can appear to be clean visually, yet be plugged enough to cause flow and heater problems. The dishwasher detergent or filter cleaner is critical for a thorough cleaning and to strip oils and fine particles that are trapped in the pleats. IMPORTANT: if you do use the dishwasher to clean your filters, rinse thoroughly first. DO NOT USE THE HEAT DRY CYCLE OR JetDry anti-water spotting products when cleaning your filters!!!

FIVE: Seat filters properly in the compartment after cleaning. This ensures that 100% of the water flowing through the filters is filtered.

SIX:

Maintain proper water chemistry at all times. Filters are only the first step to clean water. They do not kill bacteria.

SEVEN: Use Scumbugs in your hot tub. They absorb oils, eliminate the scum line and improve filter effectiveness.

EIGHT: Consider having two sets of filters.   Use on an alternating basis; the clean set in the spa; the dirty set soaking.

NINE:

Rinse off before using the spa. Taking a quick rinse before using the tub will make water care much easier!

TEN:

Hot Tub Meditation

Having a hot tub can be a sensational thing, in every sense of the word. The warm water has a  way of rejuvenating all the senses, and makes a long and exhausting day melt away in just minutes. For stress relief, along with many other health benefits, using a hot tub can used as a way to “get back in tune” on a daily basis.

Being able to calm a busy mind is an excellent skill to have, but it may take a lifetime to master (think Tibetan monks). There are many different ways of controlling the mind’s continual chatter.  And, they all take practice.  Meditating in the hot tub is something that many of our Olympic Hot Tub Company customers tell us gives them a head start on their meditation practice.

When your feet touch the warm water, and your body feels the heat and the motion of the jets, it’s not difficult at that moment to stop thinking, and to start focusing on the feeling of the water on the body.  It’s its own meditation, in many ways. Even if you start with your eyes closed to “feel the water” it’s a way of centering that can have great benefits.

There are thousands of guided meditations that come from every spiritual tradition. It’s not surprising when we consider how water is viewed in different societies that hot water meditation would be of interest.  Water is a source of clarity, of purity, it speaks to the greater powers and pulls in the universe, and it’s used to wash things until they are transformed. The essence of water is simply beautiful, and it’s a great beginning point as a subject of contemplation, which can lead to wonderful, calming results to mind and body.

If you’re considering hot water meditation, do limit your sessions to 15-20 minutes at 102 degrees.

Staying in too much longer will be enervating and not calming to the mind.

Use Feng Shui To Create A Restful Setting for Your Hot Tub

The ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui may not spring to mind when you’re considering where to put your hot tub.  But the principles of balance and flow embodied in Feng Shui are also good principles of design from any point of view.

Feng Shui is an art form that has been practiced in the Far East for over five thousand years.

Feng means “Wind” and Shui means “Water” and Feng Shui is the “art of living in harmony with the earth”. When we live our lives in balance and harmony, we are filled with happiness, contentment, and abundance.

Feng Shui is a Taoist based vision of the natural world; alive and filled with “Chi”

, or energy. The ancient Chinese believed the land’s energy (chi) could be positive or negative (yin or yang).

Yin and Yang are two opposites in the Living Universe. Yin is represented by Black and Yang is White. Classic examples of yin and yang are; night versus day; short versus tall; and male versus female. While they are opposite, it is also true that one cannot exist without the other. Without night there is no day and without black there would be no white… Thus, yin and yang energies are constantly interacting with each other in our daily lives, practitioners of the yin-yang concept advocate the need of a balance the two forces. These basic ideas can help shape your space into a restful, pleasing setting for your hot tub:

  • Avoid rushing water – a gentle spill is preferable. Like in the water features on Hot Spring Spas.
  • Hang wind chimes for calm and relaxation.
  • Do not arrange objects with their corners pointing toward important areas.
  • Avoid sharp objects pointing upward – especially tall sharp objects such as poles.
  • Concentrate on balance – warm and cool, soft and hard – in materials, color, shapes, and even scale.
  • Combine the opposing elements of fire and water. A fire pit is the perfect way to balance your hot tub and add that fire element.
  • Avoid straight lines of transit – let your paths and streams twist and wind.

The more soothing and in harmony and balance your hot tub setting is, the more you’ll use it. Consider adding some Feng Shui principles to your hot tub landscape.

Congratulations! You’ve purchased a home with a hot tub. Here’s what to do next!

Congratulations!  You’ve purchased a home with a hot tub. With the uptick in the real estate market, more and more people are buying homes, many of which have hot tubs in the backyard.

You’re probably looking forward to enjoying all of the health and relaxation benefits that a hot tub provides. And, you’re probably thinking about relaxing with friends as you enjoy your new backyard.  If you’re new to hot tub ownership, read on for what to do before you take that first dip.

1) Get as much information from the seller of your new home as possible. Specifically, what brand of hot tub and model name or number have you inherited?  Find out if there is an owners manual for its operation. Without the brand and model you’ll have a hard time buying filters and covers and you won’t know the capacity in gallons in order to judge the proper amount of water care products to add.  An analogy would be calling a car dealership and saying that you had “a car” and were in search of parts or tires.  If you don’t know the brand or model, measure the width and height so you’ll be able to calculate the volume of water it holds so you can measure water care products accurately for your model.

2) Buy new filters before a cleaning or draining. You’ll save hours of headaches by starting out with filters that aren’t cracked, clogged or simply past their effectiveness.  Filters have a life of 2-3 years and are typically not replaced by a seller before putting a house on the market.  Bad filters are the #1 cause of cloudy water because they aren’t able to filter properly. If you don’t know the brand or model of your new hot tub, you’ll have to remove a filter and measure it.  With the measurements, you can call local hot tub retailers or search the web for the proper size.  Do not install a filter that’s not the proper size in a spa.

3) Check the cover and lifter.

Is the cover very heavy to lift, broken in the center, or cracked and peeling?  If yes, then it’s definitely time to get a new cover.  A cover that is heavy is water saturated and not able to hold the heat in.  Why pay in energy costs? A new cover will save your precious energy dollars and make your hot tubbing experience more fun.  The lifter should sit straight on the hot tub with straight arms and top bar.  If they’re bent or crooked, you’ll have a much harder time lifting your new cover and it may not sit completely on the hot tub rim to form a heat retention seal.  A new lifter will save your back, save your new cover and possibly save you energy dollars, too.

4) Buy new water care products. Put everything that the former owner left you in a box and drive to the nearest reputable hot tub dealer. They’ll be able to help you sort out what you need and don’t need.  I am amazed at what people bring into my store. For example, water in Western Washington is very soft. It is disconcerting to see a bottle of water softener, which is totally unnecessary and will actually harm the equipment, included with hot tub water care supplies.  Too, many people try to save a few dollars by buying swimming pool chlorine sold at box stores and discount warehouses and using it in their hot tub.  Note that pool chlorine is not stable in hot water, causes cloudy water, dissipates too quickly and is the wrong pH for hot tub use.  The difference in chemical formulation is slight, but crucial to your enjoyment of your hot tub.  If your hot tub uses chlorine (most older systems do), make sure it is specially formulated for hot tubs and has “dichloride” not “trichlor” as the major ingredient.

5) Check out new water care options like SilkBalance which eliminates testing, mixing and adding of all of the balancing products.  Makes hot tub care a cinch and gives you soft, smooth skin!

6) Buy water care products made in America. Many online brands use offshore products with fillers that can be harsh on your skin. Don’t take a chance! American made water care products pass rigorous safety standards. And, don’t mix products from different brands. Each brand has its products formulated to work well together.

7) While you’re at the hot tub retailer, get a water care lesson on proper care. Reputable dealers will be able to give you a handout on water care even if you don’t know the manufacturer.  Proper water care will keep the water clean, sanitary and safe.

Grandkids Love the Hot Tub Now That the Water's Clean
