Why Not Take Your Hot Tub Camping??!!

Well, if you really MUST have a hot tub when you go camping, here’s one idea. From the DesignCrack.com archives, it’s called the DutchTub. The Dutch Tub is one of those ingenious ideas where you wonder, ” Why has no-one thought of this before?”  (Or maybe not?). It’s National Dog Day, But Dogs in Your Hot Tub? Not a Good Idea

Dogs in the hot tub? Well, you might make an exception for today-it’s National Dog Day-August 26th. More people have dogs for pets than any other animal. Why? Because they are loving and loyal companions. They treat us better than we treat each other. Here is one day to recognize and honor them for their love, loyalty and life saving skills.

Fido here may look peaceful-he’s in for therapy and this hot tub is kept cooler (in the high 80′s) for his treatments. But having your dog in your own hot tub? Not a good idea. Dogs shed short hair which will clog filters. There’s also the possibility of pet “germs” and their compatibility with human “germs”. That’s the verdict from your hot tub’s side.

From the pets’ view: dogs have no way to dispel excess body heat except through hard and rapid panting.  Overheating your dog is a real possibility if he or she shares your 102 or hotter hot tub. Think, too, about the drying effects that chlorine will cause (if you’re using a chlorine system).

Make your hot tub a “humans only” zone unless you and your dog agree it’s a good thing!  If your dog does go in the hot tub with you, send us a photo and tell us what you do to keep the water clean and your dog happy.

Hot Tub Best Purchase We’ve Ever Made Says Happy Owner

Some letters just make your day! Here’s one I received last week from a happy Olympic Hot Tub owner. We were on vacation at the Sun Valley Writers’ Conference when I received this.  And, as I read it over, I couldn’t help but think that none of the distinguished writers were as eloquent as Peter Farrell in his love for his hot tub and what’s its done for him and his wife. Read on:

Dear Alice,
We purchased our hot tub late March of this year from your Issaquah Olympic Hot Tub Company store. The model we bought was a Hot Spot Sorrento model by Hot Spring Spas and have had it enclosed in a gazebo to enable year-round use and enjoyment.  (That’s a photo of Peter above).
Firstly I would like to say that Jon Hutter in the Issaquah store was invaluable with his advice and assistance through our decision making process.
Secondly and even more importantly, this has had to be the best purchase that we have ever made. Both my wife and I love to relax of an evening in the tub, we talk, listen to music, have a glass of wine and let the water carry our cares away and revitalize our mind and body.
As for the Silk Balance, we love it because it leaves our skin feeling normal.  Also I suffer mildly from eczema and the Silk Balance absolutely does not aggravate my skin which is wonderful.

Full Moon Tonight: Your Hot Tub’s Got The Best Seat In The House for Hot Tub Astronomy

It’s time for Hot tub Astronomy 101. Here’s a bit of history: full Moon names date back to Native Americans tribes of the area of the northern and eastern United States. The tribes kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full Moon.

The August full moon is called the Full Sturgeon Moon. The fishing tribes are given credit for the naming of this Moon, since sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month. A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because, as the Moon rises, it appears reddish through any sultry haze. It was also called the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon.

Whatever you call it, don’t miss tonight’s full moon from your Hot Spring Spa from Olympic Hot Tub. I think it will be visible between the clouds. Wear a Bathing Suit in Your Hot Tub? Thank Coco Chanel

It’s the birthday today of Coco Chanel who invented the modern bathing suit using jersey traditionally reserved for mens underwear. She was born on August 19, 1883 and lived to age 88  working up to the day she died in 1971. Sure, her original suits had bottoms to the knee and long sleeves, but at least they were lightweight and not cut-off versions of heavy dresses. It was her inspiration that got womens bodies out of layers of heavy clothing that restricted movement when bathing. From her original design, it was only a matter of time before the legs were shortened, the sleeves were shortened and the modern bathing suit arrived.

So, if you’re soaking in your Hot Spring Spa in a bathing suit tonight, thank Coco.

Suffering From Chronic Pain? An Infrared Sauna Can Help According to Japanese Study

Can infrared sauna therapy help  if you’re suffering from chronic pain? The following study has important information for you, if you do.

BACKGROUND: Researchers at Nishi Kyusyu University in Japan hypothesized that overall body warming might decrease pain and improve the outcomes in patients with chronic pain. The purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of systemic thermal therapy(overall body warming)  in patients with chronic pain.

They divided people with chronic pain into two groups. Group A with 24 patients were treated by a multidisciplinary treatment including cognitive behavioral therapy, rehabilitation, and exercise therapy. Group B with 22 patients were treated by a combination of multidisciplinary treatment and repeated thermal therapy. A far-infrared ray dry sauna therapy and post-sauna warming were performed once a day for 4 weeks during hospitalization. Post sauna warming consisted of wrapping the patients in blankets for an hour after the sauna therapy to keep them warm.

RESULTS: Researchers reported improvements in the subjects’ symptoms, the number of pain behaviors after treatment and outcomes a years after discharge. The pain score as rated by patients, number of pain behaviors, self-rating depression scale, and anger score significantly decreased after treatment in both groups during the treatment period.

After treatment, however, the number of pain behaviors was slightly smaller and anger score was significantly lower in group B than those in group A  that did not have sauna therapy.

Two years after treatment, 17 patients (77%) in group B returned to work compared with 12 patients (50%) in group A.

CONCLUSION: These results suggest that a combination of multidisciplinary treatment and repeated thermal therapy may be a promising method for treatment of chronic pain.

What To Do in The Hot Tub? Give Your Partner a Hand Reflexology Massage!

A really nice thing to do in your Hot Spring Spa is give your partner (and receive!) a hand reflexology massage. We all suffer from things like headaches and backaches from time to time and hand reflexology just might provide quick relief.

Hand reflexology is not as well known as foot reflexology, but the principles are the same. There are points on the hands that correspond to areas of the body. The  diagram above shows those areas.

HOW TO GIVE A HAND REFLEXOLOGY MASSAGE: Gently massage each point in turn starting at the head (around the thumb area) and working down across the neck, throat, and chest down to the feet. Hand reflexology has an advantage over foot reflexology because it can be performed anywhere. Start with gentle pressure.  Increase pressure gradually but ease off if it gets painful.

These are useful techniques to learn for the treatment of simple every day complaints. (Never use it if there is likely to be an under lying injury, or medical condition.) Here are a few:

HEADACHE:

If you have a headache, try stimulating the top of the thumb and the part below which represents the neck area to find relief.

STOMACH UPSET:

Gently massage the heel of the thumb and the area across the center of the hand. If there is pain, stop immediately because this may indicate something deeper that requires medical treatment.

LOWER SPINAL PAIN:

The point where the center of your hand joins your wrist can be stimulated to give relief from lower back pain. This is a perfect antidote to backache caused by sitting at a computer for too long. Always seek medical advice if back pain persists.
