Hot Tub Without Rock n Roll Music Isn’t the Same

I love it when we get letters from customers about their experience with Olympic Hot Tub Company. Here’s one from last week.

Dear Olympic:
I don’t really have a question but rather a comment. I have bought two Hot Spring Spas and with my second one I purchased a stereo system with it. The stereo system failed I was distraught as I am a widow on a fixed income. I called for service and this nice young man named Soltia Phan came to my rescue he quickly diagnosed the problem but there was no cheap fix so I thought that I would have to do without my beloved rock n roll while using my hot tub. Then I got a call from your service department from Soltia who had talked it over with Dennis Blair, the Service Coordinator, and they found a part that would fix my stereo system. Soltia came out and fixed it without cost to me for just customer satisfaction. Needless to say I am very impressed and grateful that you would go the extra mile to help me and keep me as a very satisfied customer. Thank you very much in a time when everyone is having financial difficulties it is great to know a company who still puts customers first. Sincerely, E. B., Hot Spring Spa Vanguard Owner, Ollala, WA

Thanks to Sotia  for his quick thinking and willingness to go the extra mile to help our customer in Ollala.  And, thanks to E.B. for sharing her story. After all, what’s a hot tub soak without Rock ‘n’ Roll?

Best Christmas Present? Husband Arranges Surprise Hot Tub Delivery

Over the years, we’ve delivered many hot tubs that turned out to be a complete surprise for the families.

The best story: a couple came in to the Olympic Hot Tub Company Fife store and looked at hot tubs. Finally the husband told the salesman, “I’m sorry. We just can’t afford one.” The wife looked so disappointed. About an hour later, the phone rang. It was the husband whispering into the phone, “I’m the person who was just in and said we couldn’t afford it. I want to buy one for my wife as a surprise.” The details were finalized and the tub was set for delivery on a Saturday when his wife was at work.

That Saturday, our Olympic Hot Tub Company truck pulled up and the fellow ran out with his video camera shouting, ” Go back. Go back!” The truck turned around, went around the block and came back to his home as he filmed it. He filmed the entire delivery.

That night It was very dark outside and his wife did not look in the back yard when she came home. The next day the couple was watching the Seahawks game on TV. At half time, the husband put a cassette in the VCR. “What’s this?” the wife asked. She watched a hot tub delivery truck come around a corner and approach a driveway. Then, she jumped up and screamed, “That’s my house!!” And ran outside where the tub was ho, steaming and ready to go!

They both jumped in and forgot about the game.   The husband couldn’t wait to share the store with the salesperson in the Fife store. We all cried. What a great husband!

You’ll never guess what your family told us  they really want for Christmas….more time together!

Here’s a Hot Spring Spa Grandee ready for giving and a big surprise on Christmas morning! And, we guarantee you’ll all spend more time together and maybe your story about the big surprise will be as touching as the one above!

Favorite Post: Redbook Magazine Publishes Hot Tub Tip for the Holidays: “Soak up the Love”

Holiday madness has already begun. What can you do to stay sane & connected to what’s important? Here’s my favorite post from November 2008 with the best very advice “Soak up the Love”.  I couldn’t have said it better:

Olympic Hot Tub Company Hot Spring Spa owner Nancy Juetten of Bellevue, WA sent her best tip to Redbook Magazine for connecting with her husband and keeping the intimacy and love flowing between them while managing a teenage son and two busy careers:

Soak up the love: “My husband and I both work from home, so relaxed couple time is in short supply. To get away from all of our day-to-day tasks, we take ‘breaks’ in our hot tub. Even if we’re soaking in silence, we can hold hands and be together in a lovely way that has nothing to do with being productive.”
Nancy Juetten, 46, Bellevue, WA

This is sound advice for all of us who during the holidays will be swept up in busyness and “to dos”. I know I’ve get so stressed during the holidays trying to get everything done that I often forget what’s really important. Nancy’s suggestion to keep it simple, keep it real and keep your relationship in balance is easy to do thanks to the hot tub. So bring it all back to what’s most important.  Sitting quietly holding hands in the hot tub paints a beautiful picture. Thank you for sharing this insight, Nancy.  Continued happy soaking and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Hot Tubs and Cold Weather: Top 6 Things To Do Before You Soak

What’s with this early snow? The Seattle Times says it’s La Nina and we’ve got to get used to it. Let’s do better than that. Let’s enjoy it and make the most of it by going out to the hot tub tonight! If you were wise enough to have placed your Hot Spring Spa right outside a door, you’re in luck tonight. It may takes some coaxing and convincing self-talk to convince yourself to run out to the tub in your bathing suit and jump in. But, once you are there, get ready for a fantastic hot tub soaking experience!

There are 6 things you must do before you go out. Plan ahead for a wonderful hot tub soak:

1. Purchase the Star Walk app for your iPhoneStar Walk is a star gazing app like no other.  Not only can you learn the planets, stars and constellations, Star Walk adds in great features like location awareness. On iPhone 3G and later models using the location feature Star Walk can give a clearly labeled night sky letting you easily identify what you’re looking at. The app also makes use of the compass feature, if your model of the iPhone supports it, and brings up an exact night sky of your current location. Looking up constellations is just a matter of tapping on the star you want and voilà! Your constellation outline comes up on your iPhone. A feature which colors your whole screen dim red so as to preserve your night vision to gaze at the sky is just the perfect touch. Selected as one of the best apps of 2009 by Apple, Star Walk is definitely worth the $2.99 it sells for. See the complete review of the Star Walk app at Macworld.

2. Make some hot Chocolate! That’s the perfect drink for the tub in weather like this. Cold drinks would be too much of a shock to your system tonight. Take the chocolate to the tub in a plastic cup. Don’t use ceramic or glass that might break.

3. Find your slippers from the summer that are buried in the back of your closet. Wear them. This is NOT the time to go bravely barefoot to the tub.

4. Wear a hat-preferably a woolly stocking cap to protect your head from rapid heat loss and avoid frostbitten ears (yes it can and HAS happened!).

5. Heat your terry cloth robe in the dryer to make the transition from your warm house to the tub easier. Ditto your towels so they’re toasty when you get out.

6. Put some extreme weather moisturizer on your face. There are many brands made for skiing and mountain climbing. If you don’t have any on hand, use Vaseline to protect your face from getting over-exposed to the cold. You don’t want those small blood vessels on your nose and cheeks to break from being too cold.

Now, you’re ready. Carefully pick your way through the snow.  Lift the cover, see the steam curling up, climb in, snuggle down into the water and experience that “AHHHHhhhhhhh”.  It doesn’t get any better than this. Try it today or tonight!  I promise you’ll enjoy the sheer sensuousness and luxury like at no other time.

Snow angels at the end of your soak are optional!!  If you do make snow angels, send some photos :-)

Obviously there are some health conditions that would prevent soaking in these extreme temperatures. If in doubt, consult your physician.

Construction Workers Say A Hot Tub Is A Must To Stay Pain Free

Our guest post today is by Sylvia Rosen, a residential content accessories manager at Buyer Zone. She’s done extensive research on the benefits  hot tub owners receive from their tubs. A surprisingly high number -30% -of buyers she’s surveyed recently have been construction workers.  Here’s a summary of her latest research:

Dean Lewis spends his days lifting heavy objects, working in harsh weather conditions and pushes his body to the limits. For a construction worker like Dean, there is nothing better than coming home after a long day to relax.

However, Dean and other construction workers have a special remedy that takes their pains, aches and soreness out every time – soaking in a hot tub.

“After a hard day’s work, sitting in that hot tub is like a dream come true,” Dean said. “I feel no pain, and just feel relaxed.”

A fellow construction worker told Dean to purchase a new hot tub or spa for its hydrotherapy and pain relief benefits. According to Dean, it’s one of the best suggestions he’s ever been given.

“I thought my friend was just pulling my leg,” he said. “After I get out I feel so much better, especially after a long and vigorous day.”

Dean is just one of the 44% of buyers who purchase a hot tub for the hydrotherapy and pain relief benefits. Studies show that warm water exercises are a great way for people to build up strength and relax stiff joints and sore muscles. The water buoyancy helps reduce the pressure on joints, making it easier and less painful to perform the most simplest of tasks.

Alex Greficz, a retired construction worker, has been using a hot tub to relieve the aches and pains of aging for 26 years.

“We are actually on our fourth hot tub,” Alex said. “They have been really helpful for our health, especially after we work in the garden because our muscles get sore.”

Alex, 73, and his wife Karen, 62, said that taking a dip in the hot tub is a daily routine that’s as important as brushing their teeth.

“My wife uses it three times a day and I use it once a day. The longer you stay in it it’s very helpful and helps us get up in the morning,” Alex said.

Alex was a construction worker for years. He originally purchased a basic hot tub as a retirement gift to himself, and soon realized it did more than just take the aches and pains out.

“The hot tub has made us a better couple,” he explained. “We enjoy going in it, talking and listening to music. It’s fun for the family.”

Approximately 30% of hot tub owners, who were interviewed about how their hot tub has benefited their lifestyle, were construction workers. All say that the hot tub is something they can’t live without and is an essential tool in their jobs.

#1 Reason People Buy Hot Tubs? Relaxation!

Our guest post today is by Sylvia Rosen, a residential content accessories manager at Buyer Zone. She’s done extensive research with hot tub shoppers and buyers on why they’ve purchased.  Here’s a summary of her research:

The weak economy isn’t enough to stop people from buying one of the most relaxing luxuries you can add to your home – the hot tub.

After a long day at the office, full of meetings and hours spent at the desk, the warm water is the perfect escape, as well as tool, to offer both mental and physical relief from the day. Research even shows that “relaxation” is the number one reason why buyers purchase hot tubs.

Buyers choose hot tubs over other relaxing remedies because it is one of the best ways to relax all year round – especially in the winter. In fact, the winter weather is one of the key reasons why hot tubs are purchased; it is a great way to sit outside and relax and enjoy the cold weather.

Frank Tillinghast from Massachusetts spends his entire day working and pushing his body at construction sites. He has found that one of the best ways to wind down is to jump in the hot tub.

“I do construction for work, so after beating yourself up all day it’s nice to go out and just relax,” Tillinghast said. “It’s a great way to just cut back after work.”

He also added that he uses his hot tub most often in the winter for the extra soothing experience.

“I barely ever use it in the spring. It’s nice because when you are sitting in it you are sweating, but when it starts to get cold out, it feels really great,” he explained.

Tillinghast is one of many who enjoy hot tubs in the winter. In December, 54% of people looking to buy hot tubs wanted to use it as a way to relax, with the number growing through the winter.

The numbers continued to grow by summertime, when schools were out and kids spent longer days at summer camp. Adults took advantage of the quiet and the vacation time to relax outside with friends. In fact, the number of people looking to buy hot tubs as a way to relax grew nearly 10% by the end of July.

Although a hot tub is a luxury to have, some people find it a necessity – especially older adults and athletes. The second most popular reason buyers want hot tubs is for the hydrotherapy and pain relief benefits.

For anyone, hydrotherapy can reduce stress, headaches, and help you sleep better.  Athletes swear by hot tubs as a way to relax muscles and joints, and older people love how it eases arthritis pain.

Often the same buyers who are purchasing hot tubs for hydrotherapy and pain relief benefits are the same people who have been using hot tubs for over a decade; such is the case for Gary and Margaret Ott from Vermont.

“We had a hot tub for 3 to 4 years in New Jersey and we loved it,” Gary said. “So when we moved here [Vermont] we had to buy a new one. We use it all year round, but winter is the best. It takes all the aches and pains out.”

What starts out as a way to relax slowly becomes a way of life. Although hot tubers enjoy the relaxation sensations of the warm water, the health benefits encourage the need to keep it around.

Hot Tub Owner Writes: “SilkBalance in our Hot Tub Saves My Wife and Kids from Dry Itchy Skin

There’s nothing like hearing from a happy hot tub owner. Brian Shepard emailed his thoughts on SilkBalance natural water care for spas and hot tubs because he’s now able to enjoy his tub. What a concept! That’s why he bought it in the first place. His two bright eyed children are pictured sitting on the cover of the family Hot Spring Vanguard:

” Before we discovered Silk Balance, keeping the chemicals at the right levels in our hot tub seemed to be a constant battle.  In addition, the water left my wife and kids with itchy and dry skin.  My days of driving to the hot tub store to buy lots of chemicals are finally over.  Silk Balance is so easy to use that I sometimes wonder if there must be more that I should be doing.  I simply add 4-ounces of Silk Balance to my Hot Springs Vanguard tub once a week and spend the rest of the time enjoying it with my family.  Silk Balance rocks!

Brian Shepard

Switch to SilkBalance, have it auto-shopped to your home and enjoy all of the benefits that Brian writes about.  It’s funny that he questions whether he should be doing more!  That would be true if he were using any other water treatment plan. I’ve used it in my own hot tub- a Hot Spring Prodigy- for two years and couldn’t be happier. It’s easy and no more dry skin!! Try it-I guarantee it will change you life.

It’s Pursuit of Happiness Week-Soaking in Your Hot Tub Will Definitely Increase Your Happiness!

It’s Pursuit of Happiness Week. Of course, we Americans celebrate the pursuit of happiness. We’re guaranteed the right to pursuit of happiness in our constitution. So many people misread it as the constitution guarantees their right to happiness and walk around miffed that happiness isn’t theirs.   It takes some work to figure out what makes us personally happy, but scientists are hard at it to help us.

What does it take to be truly happy and have feelings of joy permeate your everyday life? Six British experts have found what they say are 10 simple steps we can all take to make our lives happy (happier), reports BBC News.  The team outlined the “seeds of happiness” in the following 10-point plan.  And 7 of these “seeds of happiness” can be done in your Hot Spring Spa! What are you waiting for? Get soaking and you’ll be started on your happiness project today.

1.      Plant something and nurture it.  A scented garden around your hot tub is a great way to start.

2.      Count your blessings—at least five—at the end of each day. I like to count my blessings while I’m in the hot tub. The warm, soothing water inspires gratitude.

3.      Take time to talk. Have an hour—or even a half hour—conversation with a loved one each week. What better place than in the hot tub? You’ve heard the Latin saying “in vino veritas” (in wine there is truth)well, in hot water there is truth.Skip the wine until after you’re out of the hot tub. Hard to mask your feelings while you’re soaking and relaxing.

4.      Phone a friend with whom you have not spoken for a while and arrange to meet up. Invite them for a dip.

5.      Give yourself a treat every day and take the time to really enjoy it. There’s nothing better than a soak in your hot tub as the treat of the day. Remember: It’s not illegal, immoral or fattening.

6.      Have a good laugh at least once a year. Ever hear of Laughter Yoga? Try it in the hot tub.

7.      Get physical. Exercise for half an hour three times a week. Get in the hot tub after you’ve cooled down from your workout and you’ll see real gains in your flexibility and stamina.

8.      Smile at and/or say hello to a stranger at least once a day.

9.      Cut your TV viewing by half. Soaking in your hot tub will definitely help with this as well as be a mood elevator instead of a downer.  Many of our Olympic Hot Tub Company customers have told me this has been true for them.

10. Spread Kindness. Do a good turn for someone everyday.

Simple things. All easy to do and most start with a good soak in your Hot Spring Spa. Who knew the “seeds to happiness” start in your own backyard?
